Did you know that before 1974 Golf Mk1, Volkswagen attempted several times to produce a model similar to that? Actually, the German manufacturer wanted to replace the legendary Beetle (also known as Type 1; produced between 1938-2003 with more than 21.5 million units), so they made a several number of concepts of how this successor could look like. Some of them, are alphanumerically: EA41 (1952), EA47 (1953), EA53 (1958), EA97 (1957-60), EA158 (1962), EA235 & EA235a (1967), EA266 & EA276 (1968) and finally the EA337 in 1969.
The "closest" ones to the Mk1 Golf were the EA235, the EA276 and the EA337. Recently, Volkswagen unveiled officially the EA276 concept, which actually led to the Brazilian Gol model in 1980. But, what could happen if the EA276 concept would be "production-ised" before 1974? So, I converted this concept into a 5-door model to have 3-door & 5-door choices, as the Mk1 Golf model. Hope you like it
